HOW TO SAVE 50% OR MORE ON A HEALTH CLUB MEMBERSHIP Mar 24

While many people go to health clubs or gyms to perform various types of exercises, more and more people are joining health clubs specifically to exercise with weight-lifting equipment. The machines are designed to strengthen specific groups of muscles and are usually safer than free weights. A good health club will feature a selection of sophisticated equipment that will enable you to get a complete workout.

When you join a health club or work out at a gym you will most likely be able to exercise on a series of different weight machines, often called “stations”, as well as perform aerobic activity such as cycling or running in place, between stations. Some health clubs feature “multistation” machines which enable you to perform various exercises. You can also use single-station equipment individually or in sequential order to work on specific parts of your body.

The best health clubs will have a staff trainer to supervise your first few sessions, enabling you to learn a sequence of exercises that works each muscle group of your body. The supervisor should also give you instructions on the proper execution of each exercise to ensure that you know how to use the equipment safely.

Prices for health club membership vary from one club to the next. Many clubs charge a one time initiation fee plus regular monthly “dues”. Depending on where you live and the club you join, you can expect to pay from $100 to $1,500 per year.

The best way to save money on a health club membership is to determine how often you will use a club’s services. If you know you will make it to the club only once a week or less, look for a club with low monthly rates. Also do some figuring— how much do you wish to pay for each visit? Generally, the best way to, save 50% or more is to simply say that is all you can pay for a membership they will usually accept your offer if you are persistent!
